SELF-CARE ISN'T SELFISH.
This past week, my daughter, Abby, called me to ask, "Am I being completely selfish by working out before I pick Jeff up from daycare?".
My response: "Absolutely not! If you don't take care of yourself, you can't fully take care of him".
This is a hard concept for parents. And especially (in my opinion) for Moms. "Mommy guilt" is real.
We talked a lot this summer about it being the summer of self-care.
Now, we must switch gears and discuss the "School Year of Self-Care."
Whether you have kids at home or not, the change of seasons brings a change of schedules. Many of us, myself included, need to readjust some of our self-care routines to accommodate those changes. This becomes the case even more as we head into the holiday season in a few short months.
So, during this unofficial last week of summer, I encourage you to sit down, light a candle, and plan.
- What is your schedule going to look like for the next month?
- What summer self-care rituals have you loved?
- How will you continue to fit them in?
Most importantly, write yourself a note you will see daily saying:
Self-care isn't selfish.
